“I feel like a ghost who’s got a skeleton face.
I’m gonna run behind you in the shadow’s place.”
Consisting of three Feels-era songs, and a live version of the title track, People is a short and sweet look at the band’s creative process as we get to see what hit the cutting room floor during the creation of their monumental 2005 album. It’s playful and creative like always, but there isn’t anything here that will change your allegiance if you already have an opinion on the band; as such, it’s kind of inconsequential in the grand scheme of their career.
‘People’ is a repetitive jam that gets about as much as it can out of a simple guitar line and Avey Tare screeching “PEOPLE” and alternating how he emphasizes the syllables of the phrase “oh yeah.” It gets tired fast, but it’s not as boring as some of the glaciers on past albums. ‘Tikwid’ is the clear highlight—a vintage AC tune that would have fit well on Feels, while the last new track is an experimental blend of the Beatles’ ‘Revolution 9’ and the horrifying portion of the 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtrack when the apes discover the monolith.
