The Shadow Rising
Robert Jordan was a good “ideas guy” but a lousy writer.
It’s all just very tiresome, not even to a level that could affectionately be referred to as pulp.
The result is a net negative for the band’s legacy (hence why I prefer to pretend that this doesn’t exist).
On a positive note, the info-dumps were slightly less frequent, and for that I am thankful.
After two books, it feels like we should be roughly 300 pages into the first book in a trilogy, not half a million words deep into a fifteen books series.
Gone is the carefully considered philosophical nuance; gone is the thematic depth; gone is any real attempt at character development.
