Taking a well-worn genre formula and avoiding its cliches, The Vast of Night is an old-fashioned triumph of form while remaining fun and engaging throughout.
It is certainly not something a fact checker or film snob would cherish, but for a straight up action film it works all right.
Much of the film is high energy fluff, but its family dynamics and stellar performances elevate it above a simple visual spectacle.
Though it falters in several unfortunate ways, Reloaded is a worthy follow-up and serves its purpose of expanding the universe of The Matrix very well.
