Kill!
Kill! modulates between genre pulp and attempts to transcend its genre.
Less ambitious than the likes of Rashomon or The Seven Samurai, Kurosawa’s small-scale samurai film nevertheless finds the director at the top of his game.
He is skilled at his profession, but takes no joy in it—not a glamorized hitman, but an isolated man, stripped of his humanity, enduring a downward spiral toward his own personal eschaton.
